Dr. Ryan Smart is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon who is extensively trained in treating sports injuries including treatment and surgical repair of injuries of the shoulder and knee. He received his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School, and his bachelor’s degree from Cornell University. Dr. Smart completed his orthopedic residency at Yale University, and his orthopedic fellowship training in sports medicine at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston.

Dr. Smart has an active and personal interest in sports medicine given his background as a former member of the Cornell University Men’s Varsity Hockey team. A talented player, he was drafted by the New Jersey Devils during the NHL hockey draft in 1994 and participated in the US Olympic Festival for Hockey in 1995. His on-the-ice experience gives him first hand knowledge of the injuries athletes endure and their mindset for recovery.

Dr. Ryan Smart is the team physician for Cornell University Men’s ice hockey team as well as numerous high schools in Central New York.
